Tretinoin is a mediation that is effective in controlling acne but it doesn’t cure it.
Tretinoin is available as topical liquid, cream, and gel. Available in tretinoin cream 0.05% and tretinoin cream 0.025%. Generally, this medication should be used on a daily basis at bedtime or once every 2 – 3 days, as directed by the medical professional. You should follow the directions given by the medical provider. Use the exact doses of Tretinoin, don’t take more or less of this medication as it might be not effective for your condition or lead to unwanted side reactions.
Your condition might get worse during the initial stage of the treatment. Such symptoms as red, scaling skin and an increase in acne sores might occur. You need to continue the treatment with this medication even if your condition gets worse at the first days of the treatment. Typically, 2-3 weeks of regular use of tretinoin are required to see the improvement of the condition.
During the use of tretinoin cream you should not use medicated cosmetics on cleansed skin. You should avoid using topical preparations containing alcohol, menthol, spices, or lime as they might cause unpleasant reactions to the skin. Besides, don’t use any other topical medications, particularly such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and dandruff shampoos.
When using tretinoin, one should follow the following steps: wash hands and affected skin area thoroughly and then dry it before applying tretinoin. Tretinoin gel must be applied to the affected skin only.
Before you start the use of tretinoin, you need to inform your medical provider if you have an allergy to tretinoin or any other medications. You need also to tell about all prescription and nonprescription medicines you are presently administering.
You need to notify your healthcare giver if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are nursing a baby.
It is recommended to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight during the use of this drug as it might cause skin sensitivity to sunlight.
In case you miss the dosage of tretinoin and you use it once a day, you need to skip the dose you miss. Tretinoin should not be used more than once daily. In case you are prescribed to take tretinoin every 2 – 3 days and you miss a dose, you need to take it within 12 hours, otherwise you need to skip it.
Tretinoin can cause certain side effects. You need to notify your healthcare giver in case any of these symptoms are severe or persistent: warmth or stinging of the skin, changing of a skin colour, redness, scaling, swelling, blisteringof the skin, or increase in acne.
Tretinoin should be stored in the original container and tightly closed. Keep it at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Don’t use the medication that is outdated.
